Alexandra Burke (born August 25, 1988 in Islington, London; full name Alexandra Imelda Cecelia Ewan Burke) is a British singer and songwriter. In her home country she was known by winning the fifth season of the talent show The X Factor, which aired August to December 2008 in the evening program of ITV plc.

During the season they took together with other X Factor finalists is a cover version of the song Hero by Mariah Carey, finished in November 2008 for three weeks # 1 on the British charts.

In the final show on 13 December 2008, she sat down with 58% of the total eight million viewers cast votes against the four-member band JLS and Eoghan Quigg through the singer and received a prize of one million British pounds recording contract with Syco Music / Sony BMG.

A day after the finale came in the week before Christmas in the United Kingdom Hallelujah Burke‘s debut single, a cover version of the same hits by Leonard Cohen from the year 1984. Even before the finals were on the authority of Simon Cowell, received the creator of The X Factor 500,000 pre-orders for the single. Hallelujah increased over Christmas now No. 1 on the UK charts and was, therefore, the Christmas number-1 in the UK. The sales statistics of 2008 was also the song to # 1 before the X-Factor collaborative Hero .

Thereafter, it took nine months until the completion of their debut album Overcome. In the week prior to release of pre-released the song Bad Boys as a single, a collaboration with U.S. rapper Flo Rida. Even so, they immediately jumped back to number 1 on the charts in Britain and Ireland.
