Josh Groban (born February 27, 1981 in Los Angeles) is an American singer with a classically trained tenor voice.
Joshua Winslow Groban was born on 27 February 1981 in Los Angeles, California born. Next Groban sang in the choir, but after they had recognized his talent, he was accepted into the prestigious Interlochen Arts Program, where he participated in various school productions. After his graduation, he studied at the Los Angeles County Art School. From 2003 to 2006 he was with the actress January Jones. The couple separated in August 2006.
1998 Music producer David Foster was looking for a singer for the inauguration ceremony of the Governor of California; Groban sent him a demo tape and was hired. A year later, Andrea Bocelli fell out of his rehearsals for the Grammy Awards, Groban stepped in and sang a duet with Celine Dion. In 2000, Groban became a recurring character in the television series Ally McBeal, 2002, he sang along with Charlotte Church at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, the song The Prayer, furthermore, it appeared on Broadway in 2004 and preliminary program of the Super Bowl Finals on. In May 2008, he appeared in the musical CHESS in the Royal Albert Hall in London as Anatoly Sergievski alongside Idina Menzel, and earned standing ovation for his rendition of “Anthem”. A little later, he joined the celebration of Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday with many other world famous artists in Hyde Park in London.
Groban musical spectrum now ranges from classical to pop, he sings in English, Italian, Spanish and French. His debut album “Josh Groban“, sold in the United States über 4.000.000 times and received 4x platinum. His second studio album, “Closer” improved that mark and are even sold in the United States has more than 5,000,000 times his live album “Live at the Greek” made it to over 500,000 copies sold in the U.S.. He appeared in 2006 studio album, Awake in the U.S. sold nearly 2,000,000 times and one of the most successful albums, which were published in 2006. In 2007 he published a new Christmas album “Noel”. The album sold after 3 weeks in the USA more than 1,000,000 times, and ranks in order to the list of the few Christmas albums, which could exceed that mark. With approximately 12,000,000 albums sold in the U.S. Groban is one of the most successful male solo artists of the decade in the U.S.. His worldwide reception is somewhat more subdued, however.
Josh Groban has also to the soundtracks of the films AI (For Always Duet with Lara Fabian), Troy (Remember duet with Tanya Tzarovska) and The Polar Express (Believe) cooperated.
Not least because of the influence of his mentor David Foster, Groban was singing again at charity events such as the “Concert of Hope” for the tsunami victims, or Live 8 After a trip to South Africa with Nelson Mandela, which impressed him permanently, he founded supports 2004, the Josh Groban Foundation, the needy children.
